Diario Financiero | Chilean investors breathe a sigh of relief: Trump removes the controversial “revenge taxes” on foreigners from his tax reform.
The U.S. Congress is discussing a comprehensive legislative proposal, the “One Big Beautiful Bill”. Initially this included a Section 899 – which could impose tax measures against investors from countries that adopt taxes defined as unfair to U.S. companies and individuals. Diario Financiero, a specialized news outlet, interviewed several tax experts about the possible impact of this bill, among them our partner Maria Soledad Diharasarri Lecanda, in charge of Palma’s Tax practice. She points out that there is a double taxation treaty in force between Chile and the U.S., with tax benefits that could eventually have been curtailed by Section 899.
