We are following a logic of halting projects at the slightest procedural or administrative excuse
Investors are watching for Congress to approve several bills to streamline and speed up the project review process. The recent suspension of a Colbún project following the Environmental Assessment Service’s (SEA) decision to early terminate it confirms that administrative bureaucracy is blocking the development of infrastructure needed for the country’s progress, says our partner Sergio Quesney Swinburn in an interview with BNamericas, a portal specializing in news and analysis for large industries.
‘There is consensus that fewer rules, stages, and procedures are required, and that these should be clearer and more technical, i.e. with a lower degree of interpretability on the part of the authority in power. We need to add technical and objective criteria and eliminate, as far as possible, the discretional nature of administrative decisions,’ says Sergio.
