Our lawyer Joaquín Palma Cruzat, who is part of the Public Law and Regulatory-Free Competition practice area, discussed with journalists Carolina Urrejola and Sebastián Aguirre the Constitutional Court ruling that on Thursday 9 April 2025 confirmed the removal of Senator Isabel Allende from office.
Joaquín was part of the team that, at the request of a political coalition, filed one of the applications before the Constitutional Court seeking removal of the senator based on non-compliance with the provisions of article 60 of the Chilean Constitution. This rule prevents members of Congress from contracting with the state. During the program, he referred to the arguments considered by the ministers for such a decision. He also addressed from a technical-legal perspective the public questioning of whether other Congress members could be in a similar situation to that of Senator Allende.
